Barbarian Trailer Shows Spooky Airbnb Horror Movie Starring Justin Long

An Airbnb stay is a perfect setup for an endless well of terror and horror movie Barbaric seems to pull from the concept for its creepy premise. Barbaric stars Georgina Campbell (black mirror) as tenant and Bill Skarsgård (He) as its unexpected occupant of a rental house who is either the source or the victim of something terrible.

The trailer opens with Campbell’s character heading to Detroit for a job interview and knocking on the door of the rental house she’s about to stay in. To his surprise, Skarsgård’s character opens the door and the couple discover that the house was double-booked. Skarsgård is clearly a bit weird, but she agrees to stay in the house with him until morning. Then strange things happen.

At this point, things go into full horror trailer mode. A Parasite-the basement is revealed, with hidden doors and ropes. There’s a montage of running, phone flashlight exploration (the battery will surely die), and general blood and screaming. But the trailer is kind enough to leave plenty of mysteries for the actual film, which is slated for theatrical release on August 12, to be revealed.

But while the trailer itself is pretty good, its credits are a little weird. For example, why the hell is Justin Long in this trailer for two seconds, curled up on a concrete floor with a flashlight in his hand? It’s either a red herring or a glimpse of her destiny. The trailer also boasts that it comes from “a” producer of He and “an” executive producer of The Grudgewhich is fun and obviously specific.

Most important, Barbaric is written and directed by Zach Cregger of the sketch group Whitest Kids U’Know. Although Cregger has never done a horror project before, Jordan Pele (Get out, no) is proof that the shift from sketch comedy to horror can work really well.
