Beware the fearsome Oklahoma octopus lurking in the depths

Oklahoma has more than its fair share of spooky ghost stories, tall tales, and urban legends, but one mythical creature has been terrifying people for over 200 years, the fearsome Oklahoma octopus. This freshwater demon is said to lurk in the depths of the Sooner State lakes. Most do not survive an encounter with this beast.

Sightings of the Oklahoma octopus have been reported at Tenkiller Lake and Thunderbird Lake. This would therefore mean that we have more than one octopus living in the lakes of the region. The creature is said to be the size of a horse or small vehicle, reddish-brown in color, and thirsty for human flesh. Over the years, the legend grew and more and more people became convinced that something is preying on unsuspecting lakegoers and hunting humans who are careless enough to swim far from shore. There have been many unexplained accidents, drownings and missing persons who have never been found. This happened at both lakes. Some say it’s the Oklahoma octopus!

According to reports and even witnesses, there have been instances of people feeling like something was trying to pull them underwater. They were struggling to break free and most of the time they needed someone’s help to get out of it. So beware, stay off shore in deep waters and you could become a meal.

Once on the ground, those who were lucky enough to escape the monster noticed unusual marks and bruises that look like suction cup marks on their legs and torso. The same type of wounds or marks one would suffer if attacked by an octopus. Some even reported having bite marks and lacerations.

There are tons of stories about the Oklahoma octopus, the legend is over 200 years old and continues to this day.
