Bison Ranch and Bed & Breakfast brings Yellowstone to Michigan

With the growing popularity of shows like Yellowstone, Michiganders crave a slice of the Western lifestyle here in the Great Lakes State. The popular television drama starring Kevin Costner, which spawned three additional spin-off series, spotlights a prominent ranching family in Montana.

Although it made national news when the ranch used in the filming of the series was available for rent through Airbnb, what if you’re a die-hard Yellowstone Michigan fan unable to travel West? You are heading to Rosebush, Michigan of course!

Pohl Bison Ranch is located in the heart of the Mitten, just seven miles north of Mt. Pleasant. The family bison ranch operates a meat shop, gift shop, bed and breakfast, and campgrounds on their 30-acre property.

Owners Jim and Krista were inspired to get into the bison business after a memorable trip to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Back in Michigan, they found themselves talking endlessly about the majestic bison and within two weeks they had purchased their first herd! Say the Pohls,

Fourteen exciting years have passed since that life-changing journey. We are grateful every day to have our own piece of “the west” in our backyard.

During the day the Pohl Bison Ranch the meat shop and gift shop are open to the public, tours are also available for groups of ten or more – all are by appointment only. However, the real fun happens when you stay overnight!

The boutique bed and breakfast experience offers a private loft space in the couple’s Amish-built log home that overlooks bison pastures. You can enjoy a plate of bison summer sausages and sip a glass of wine from the porch or balcony of the house while the sun goes down and the bison roam. You will also be entitled to a hot breakfast in the morning!

If you prefer traditional tent camping or recreational campers, you can reserve your spot to see the bison while having amenities such as an electric hook-up, water hook-up, portajohn and fire pit. There are even walking trails located on the property.

If you can’t wait to go to Yellowstone but can’t afford it, this seems like the best thing to do. I will definitely add it to my summer bucketlist!
