Former detained Senator Leila de Lima sent this message to her friends and supporters on Monday after testing positive for COVID-19 over the weekend.

De Lima, who had been locked up in Camp Crame since 2017, said she actually expected to contract the upper respiratory disease after attending two court hearings last week.

She said she decided to get tested last Saturday after she started experiencing symptoms including colds, mild cough, itchy throat, runny roses and body aches.

“Now in self-isolation (nothing new for me) in my isolated detention quarters. Taking antiviral medication as prescribed by my doctors. Resting, reading a novel, praying,” De Lima said in a handwritten message.

“I’ll be fine. Thanks for all the prayers and concern,” she said.

The former lawmaker said she asked a member of her staff to advise anyone who had close contact with her, including former Quezon Rep. Erin Tañada, to monitor their condition in the coming months. days.

“I hope no one else got infected in such a context,” De Lima said.

De Lima is on trial for drug trafficking for allegedly allowing the illegal drug trade inside New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City while she was still the Justice Secretary under the Aquino administration.

She has accused her political nemesis, former President Rodrigo Duterte, of being behind the alleged false accusations against her.
