Airbnb has become a popular lodging alternative to hotels. There is obviously a crossover between those who fly frequently and those who often need accommodation.
As a result, we’ve seen not only airlines partner with hotels, but Airbnb as well. About a year ago British Airways and Airbnb formed a partnership, although it has now been adjusted a bit, mostly for the worse.
Earn British Airways Avios for Airbnb stays
It is possible to earn British Airways Avios for Airbnb stays. With updated win rates, you can:
- Earn two Avios for every £1/€1/$1 spent with Airbnb worldwide
- If this is your first Airbnb stay, you can earn six Avios for £1/€1/$1 spent with Airbnb worldwide
This is different from what was offered when this partnership was launched. In the past, you could:
- Earn three Avios for every £1/€1/$1 spent with Airbnb worldwide
- If this was your first Airbnb stay, you could earn a bonus 500 Avios
In order to take advantage of the partnership between British Airways and Airbnb, you must make your reservation via British Airways Airbnb portal. This is how they track your stays and are able to award you Avios (they likely receive a commission from Airbnb and in turn award Avios to those who book through them).
The terms state that Avios will be posted within 60 days of the booking date.
Personally, I value British Airways Avios at 1.3 cents each, so for me that equates to a return of around 2.6% on Airbnb spend, or a return of around 7.8% s This is your first stay.

Other options for earning points for Airbnb stays
British Airways isn’t the only airline to partner with Airbnb, so there are other options for earning points for stays. Each of these is mutually exclusive, i.e. you must book through the portal with the program you wish to earn points with.

At the end of the line
British Airways and Airbnb have had a partnership since mid-2019. Unfortunately, this isn’t as rewarding as it used to be, as you used to earn three Avios per dollar, instead of two Avios per dollar.
However, for many people the welcome bonus may be better now, as you earn six Avios per dollar spent, rather than a flat 500 Avios.
In general, I still consider the partnership between British Airways and Airbnb to be the most rewarding for Airbnb stays.
