Former Twin Cities City Council member admits to felony charges

Robbinsdale, MN (KROC-AM News) – A man who recently resigned from the Robbinsdale City Council has pleaded guilty to one felony and two felony charges.

Tyler Kline, 38, admitted the charge of fleeing from police as well as two DWI charges during a hearing today in Hennepin County Court. He is expected to be sentenced in August.

Kline resigned from the Northwest Twin Cities City Council on May 27 after receiving numerous calls for his resignation in the weeks following his arrest in late January. According to the criminal complaint, Kline was driving a minivan that was involved in a wrong-way hit-and-run accident on the 100 freeway in the early hours of Jan. 24.

A Crystal police officer spotted Kline shortly after the accident and attempted to stop him using his police cruiser. The attempt failed when Kline “made eye contact with the officer” and then fled, bypassing the law enforcement vehicle. Kline was eventually arrested when another officer drove his police cruiser into the van.

After ignoring repeated orders to get out of the van, the complaint states that the officers involved physically removed him from the driver’s seat and noted that he smelled of alcohol, had watery and bloodshot eyes and a bad balance. A breath test put his blood alcohol level at 0.20, more than three times above the legal limit, nearly an hour after the initial crash.
