Has my Airbnb reservation in Berlin been cancelled? | Airbnb

We have read that the German government forbids Berliners from renting entire apartments and wonder if this applies retroactively?

In January we booked and paid for a week in an apartment later this year. We tried – unsuccessfully – to contact Airbnb to ask if our booking is still confirmed.

We had no response to texts from our host or Airbnb, and our emails bounced.

It’s frustrating trying to contact Airbnb; there seems to be no one you can call at the organization. AS, Abingdon, Oxfordshire

The new rules, introduced on March 1 to prevent short-term holiday rentals from undermining the long-term rental market, mean Berliners can be fined up to €100,000 (£85,000 ) if they rent more than half of their apartment through Airbnb without a permit. .

From now on, foreign nationals can only rent rooms via the website. The restriction was introduced to address a chronic housing shortage in the city and was upheld by a court ruling in June.

Luckily for you, Airbnb assures me that your vacation is safe and the host has now contacted you to make sure they have the correct permit for your stay.
