Room Monoliths and Calm by hello wood

For its latest creation, the architectural firm hello wood designed and built ‘Rock Cabins’ resort near Kapolcs, a rural area Hungary. Hidden in a grove, the final composition takes the form of a set of six polygons cabinseach offering a comfortable and serene place for two.

At first glance, the huts seem far from ordinary houses. Their futuristic rock-like silhouette echoes the notion of a centuries-old settlement. Inspired by the shape of the rocks, the cabins blend seamlessly into the amorphous topography, creating a connection between the man-made and the natural. Their monolithic character is underlined by the use of irregular planes, sharp peaks and dark gray wooden panels, while openings are kept to a minimum so as not to interrupt the final homogeneous form. In this way, the cabins evoke an atmosphere of giant rune stones, providing users with privacy and amazing views.all images by Hello Wood

revitalize the territory AND respect its natural values

In collaboration with TreeHouses, creator of very popular huts in Noszvaj, Hello Wood has built six huts in Csóromfölde, an old farm in Hungary, breathing new life into the region after the summer events have ended. Through this project, the architects aim to create a tourist attraction in all seasons, create jobs for local populations, and thus boost the local economy. For the renewal of the region, the architects took into account the natural values of the surrounding villages and welcomed a minimalist and sustainable way of life. With its clean block-like form, the cabins organically follow the surroundings while supporting complex architectural solutions. The wooden cladding ages naturally by blending into the green setting.

“Over the years, we became very attached to the region where we had held our camps,” says András Huszár, co-founder and CEO of Hello Wood. “It was clear, however, that once the summer festivals were over, Csóromfölde and the surrounding villages were abandoned for most of the year. Now we will be able to give locals work not only on the site but , through operational tasks, throughout the year.

a memorable stay in a beautiful location

The organic gray shell is juxtaposed against the golden brown of the terrace, and the interior reveals itself as the inside of a cracked geode. Occupying approximately 25 m², each cabin accommodates a living room with a bed, kitchen furniture, built-in wardrobe and dining table, a bathroom with a double shower and a panoramic infrared sauna. To create a spa-like experience, a large hot tub is integrated into the spacious covered terrace, separated only by a glass pane from the sauna with direct access to the shower.

To further ensure privacy and a carefree experience, cabins are scattered across the lot facing each other. Each overlooks the surrounding fields and hills, and visitors can enjoy the panoramic views from the terrace, hot tub, glass-walled sauna, or even from the bed.

Following sustainable values

According to the architects, during the construction phase, the main intention was to prefabricate as many elements as possible, minimizing the construction work on site. The polygonal shape required innovative solutions to ensure that the irregular sides fit together precisely. The roof and the walls were made of exactly the same material, creating an overall compact effect.

Thanks to its coating, the structure can be heated and cooled with minimal energy consumption. The living space is raised off the ground; below this space we can find the technical systems, while the roof is built to balance the interior temperatures.
