Helsinki opens education center to promote EdTech innovation

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place virtually on September 23

In recent years, the world has seen a significant increase in the number of EdTech start-ups. Today, the Finnish city of Helsinki revealed that it seeks to promote entrepreneurship in educational technology and become the capital of learning. To achieve this goal, the city will officially inaugurate a new innovation hub – the Helsinki Education Hub – on Thursday 23 September.

According to the hub’s website, it is the first center in the world to combine EdTech learning and start-ups with Finnish teaching skills, innovative learning and academic research. By combining these elements, the Helsinki Education Hub aims to generate innovation and promote the growth of entrepreneurship.

Incubation programs

The hub will offer start-up teams and companies the opportunity to participate in incubation programs. In fact, applications for the first such program (EdTech Incubator) will open on September 23 and close on October 20.

As part of this incubation program, 10 teams or companies will benefit from support, advice and coaching in the areas of marketing, sales, finance and networking. In the future, the program will increase its capacity to 20 teams / companies. Mia-Stiina Heikkala, Head of the Helsinki Education Hub Project, commented:

“The city of Helsinki is a pioneer in dynamic cooperation between the public and private sectors. For many years, Helsinki has invested in current and potential growth areas such as games, XR and blockchain, AI and healthcare, and climate solutions. The Helsinki Education Hub is a concrete example of the city of Helsinki’s support and investment in promoting growing entrepreneurship in learning and education technologies.

Create a community

According to a press release from the Finnish capital, the hub will undoubtedly result in the creation of an EdTech community for start-ups, researchers and education professionals. In other words, it will allow individuals to attend physical and virtual events such as webinars, workshops and conferences. There, they will have the chance to meet stakeholders and other members of the EdTech community.

The hub opening ceremony will take place online on September 23 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in English. Those interested in participating must register via educationhubhelsinki.fi.
