Here’s what a $ 2.3million house in Rochester looks like

The six-bed, eight-bathroom house 835 Eighth Avenue SW sits on 0.41 acre land. The house itself measures 5,926 square feet and has over two stories.

“I just think it’s majestic,” said Melissa Niichel, real estate agent for Edina Realty. “He’s perched up the hill on the double lot. It’s like the wow factor. And then there are really comfortable spaces in the house. So it’s different from other large scale houses which are just extremely big and you get lost in it. They have very comfortable living spaces within the property.

The house was built in 1943 and measured approximately 3,200 square feet when one of its original owners, the Pappas family, owners of the popular Michaels restaurant on Broadway Avenue, first occupied it.

Three other owners have occupied the home since, doing a series of renovations along the way, including an addition of 2,600 square feet. Niichel said the addition was “essentially another house” and nearly doubled the size of the house.

As for the historic renovations and restorations, “pretty incredible,” she said.

Other notable renovations include the backyard where there is a sunken fireplace lounge, basketball and pickleball court, and a trampoline.

The location of the house southwest of Rochester couldn’t be more perfect in Niichel’s eyes.

“If you work in Mayo it’s so perfect and close to downtown you can walk to everything,” she said. “You can walk to Soldiers Field, walk to downtown, walk to the Mayo campus. It’s super practical… And it’s like a storybook with children walking to school in the morning and afternoon. It is very sweet.

It’s not the location, however, that gives this home its appeal, Niichel said.

“It’s the character and charm of the historic home, but also with today’s modern conveniences,” she said. “It’s a pretty amazing property and honestly people who have visited it say the photos don’t even do it justice. When you walk into the house it’s the wow factor.
