What to know about Airbnb’s exciting new categories

Airbnb has grown by leaps and bounds and continues to grow and adapt around the world. It has expanded to cater to travelers with exciting new rental categories around the world. They recently introduced six new booking types as part of their Airbnb categories.

The new Airbnb categories are:

  • New
  • Tendency
  • The roof of the world
  • Hanok
  • Adapted
  • To play

The Trending and New categories make it even easier to find recently added homes and top rated listings. These don’t need much more explanation.

The “Top of the World” category is a new category for homes located more than 10,000 feet (3,000 meters) above sea level. “Play” is a category for lovers of extreme games, while that “Adapted” shows homes that are guaranteed wheelchair accessible. The “fitted” listings come with pictures that show things like door measurements.

“Hanoks” are traditional Korean houses that were first designed and built in the 14th century during the Joseon Dynasty. They are planned and built with consideration for the environment of the home, including the terrain and the seasons. The ideal hanok is built with a mountain in the back and a river in the front.

Airbnb – The go-to website for unique and unusual accommodation

Airbnb has moved to allow people to find new and unique destinations (think cave accommodations, treehouses, and castles, for example). Airbnb tries to allow people to find interesting places spread all over the world. People can also filter by views from the accommodation (like national parks and wineries).

Consider defraying part of your longer vacation by listing your own home on Airbnb (and certainly if you have a vacation home)

The attractions of unusual Airbnb accommodations are seen in the fact that the most popular room on his website was a room in Cahercastle – a 600 year old castle in Ireland. At the same time, the the most popular listing on Airbnb has been a small off-grid mushroom accommodation nestled close to San Francisco.

Other unusual Airbnb accommodations in the United States include converted grain silos in Missouri and a “potato” in Idaho who has spent much of his life doing the national advertising rounds of Idaho – the potato state. Yeah, Idaho loves potatoes, so a lot of people can sleep in them..

Airbnb listings vary around the world as much as you can imagine. Some hosts are very hospitable and are there for every need, while the listings are self-registered and the hosts will never be seen. Others are just hotels.
