A global travel platform, Vegvisits competes with vacation giant Airbnb in an effort to connect vegan and vegetarian travelers.
The company, founded by two longtime vegans, has just relaunched a brand new site and is considering further expansion.
Vegvisits vs. Airbnb
The platform invites hosts from all over the world to list rooms in entire homes, with the aim of making it easier for vegans and ‘vegans’ to get around.
It happened after founders Linsey and Nicholas Minnella struggled to find food and “felt uncomfortable” staying in hotels overseas.
“We were desperate for that feeling of peace of mind,” Linsey said. PBN. Plus, it wasn’t until the couple stayed at an Airbnb with a vegan host that they came up with the idea of creating Vegvisits.
Since its launch in 2016, the platform has been available in more than 80 countries. But following the travel restrictions, Linsey says it “took a huge hit.”
However, they are now ready to take the site to more countries and educate “the whole” of the vegan and vegetarian community.
How does Vegvisits work
The hosting platform has so far accumulated more than 1,000 ads.
And among those lists, hosts are expected to keep their home free of meat and seafood “at all times” during a guest’s stay.
This is not only to prevent guests from seeing “the sights and smells of animal flesh,” but also “to bring a sense of peace among the unknown,” says Linsey.
It also offers the opportunity to receive “valuable” local advice from other vegans.
While the platform was originally free, upgraded customers are charged between 6% and 12% of the cost of the reservation. Hosts are charged three to four percent.
