Illegal AirBnB bust: New York sheriff seizes vans used as illegal short-term rentals

EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan (WABC) – Vans used as illegal AirBnBs have been confiscated from the streets of New York.

The New York Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the NYPD’s Document Fraud Unit, discovered several “suspected fraudulent and illegally registered vans.”

As part of “Operation Room Service”, seven vans were removed from city streets.

The vans were parked on the street in the East Village and Chelsea and all had New Jersey license plates.

Their owners are charged with “various alleged offences”.

Investigators were tipped off in part by a YouTube video review of one of the vans.
