When I brought you the most confusing intersection in Presque Isle, I received a lot of comments and questions about other intersections in the area. I’ll do my best to reach those on the other side of the county, but this story is about what many say is the most dangerous intersection on Presque Isle.
If you are looking for statistics on this intersection, I will stop you here. I don’t have accident statistics in this area over the years, but I’ll try to find out when I have more free time. If you’ve been through Presque Isle, you know the intersection at the north end of Main Street which is near Marden’s, Pizza Hut, and Aroostook Mall. Traffic in this area originates from all corners of Aroostook County. Let’s go!
As you can see, I was there early in the morning. I figured if I had to queue at KFC / Taco Bell before 8:30 am, I might as well make the most of the weather! It looks like our good friend Steve from Northern Business Products is ready to face the intersection. This is where Main Street, Maysville Street and Connector Street meet.
The traffic coming from Maysville Street was not as heavy as it usually is, as a large part of the traffic coming from Canada would come from that direction. But make no mistake, Maysville Street is still very busy right now.
We are now approaching the intersection from Connector Road. Traffic can come from anywhere on this road. Many believe that blind spots at the end of the street are the problem in this area.
If you are approaching Presque Isle from the Caribou and Washburn areas, or any point north, you will come to the intersection via US Highway 1.
