It’s the most viral destination for young travelers on TikTok

Since the lifting of health restrictions, Dubai has accumulated billions of views on TikTok, making it the favorite holiday destination for young people. The main financial center of the United Arab Emirates is well known for its futuristic buildings, all-inclusive resorts and stunning Gulf beaches.

The so-called platform Gen Z Travel Index is based on views only and measures the popularity level of many international destinations. Researchers say a variety of attractions, including the iconic Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest building in the world, and the opulent Dubai Mall, a luxury shopping mall, are responsible for Dubai’s fame.

As more and more buildings and entertainment centers were built, tourism naturally began to increase. Today, the whole emirate is a feast for the eyes, with world-class public infrastructure, driverless trains, indoor ski resorts and a man-made archipelago shaped like a palm tree. A huge hotel whose surface is reminiscent of that of the moon should also open soon.

Other cities in the Top 10

Dubai is a hip and vibrant city with a wide range of tourist attractions, and young adults on TikTok seem to value these attributes the most. Beyond audience, a second study was conducted to assess not only the potential to go “viral,” but also safety rankings, how often these cities are searched on Google, their tourist attractions, and more.

Dubai ranks third in this assessment with 7.1 points out of 10. It is surpassed by London, which is considered the most beautiful city break for Gen Z. Interestingly, London is only the third most visited destination with 42.7 billion views for its double-decker buses, its red telephone boxes and its emblematic “Tube”.

Barcelona is the most popular Mediterranean destination, ranking second on both lists. TikTok videos shot in or about Spain’s second-largest city have received 61.3 billion views so far.

Paris, the beautiful French city, the charming canals of Amsterdam, pretty Prague, Berlin and its Cold War past, Rome and Milan ageless, and the Thai gastronomic nirvana of Bangkok round out the top ten. Finally, the study found that social media influences the majority of TikTok users (90%) when planning vacations.
