Kirstie Ellis: two arrested for murder after body found near Leeds

A woman whose decomposing body was found in a house near Leeds on Friday has been named.

The family of Kirstie Ellis, 35, are ‘heartbroken’ after they were discovered at a home in Stanhall Mews, Stanningley on Friday.

But police believe her remains may have been at the property for weeks and only arrived at the property after being made aware of concerns for her safety shortly before 3pm that afternoon.

His relatives paid tribute to a “beautiful soul” who loved music.

Two people, a man and a woman, both also 35, were arrested on suspicion of his murder.

They were still in custody earlier in the day as forensic teams and officers scoured the property for clues.

Ms Ellis’ family said in a statement: ‘Our lives have been shattered and turned upside down by the news that no parent wants to hear, that our beautiful daughter is no longer with us.

“Kirstie Anne Ellis had a beautiful soul, a lover of music, socializing and having fun, her whole family is heartbroken at the loss of such an amazing woman.

“Kirstie had many friends and family who loved her and she will be sorely missed.”

They also urged anyone who could help the police to come forward and thanked the community and the media for their support.

Detective Chief Inspector Marc Bowes, a senior West Yorkshire Police investigator, added: “This is a tragic case and my thoughts are with Kirstie’s family at this time.”

“Our initial inquiries show that Kirstie’s body had been on the property for several weeks.

“A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of his death and specialist officers are offering support to his family.”

He continued: ‘We are asking for information from anyone who may have seen Kirstie or seen anything suspicious around Stanhall Mews, from mid-January 2022, no matter how small, to come forward and help us in our investigation.

“Reconstructing Kirsty’s movements will greatly aid our investigation.

“We are particularly keen to hear from people who visited the Catalina garage on Bradford Road around this time and who may also have seen or heard something that could help us.

“A scene remains in place on the property as well as on Cumberland Road and Beancroft Road in Castleford.”

He added that officers would carry out additional patrols in the area to reassure the local community.
