Magic City Classic tailgating spots are sold out

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – If you’re looking for indications that Birmingham is ready for its first Magic City Classic without COVID pandemic restrictions, try to get a tailgating spot.

The City of Birmingham said the 400 parking passes it made available to hookers on September 15 sold out in a record three minutes, according to parks and recreation manager Shonae ‘Eddins -Bennett. She said she expects this year’s event to be like 2018 or 2019.

β€œI have people from as far away as Washington DC who have traveled in a group, a group of RVs,” Eddins-Bennett says. β€œThey love the Classic. They come every year. I have a motorcycle club that comes every year, so we’re thrilled and happy to have Alabama State and Alabama A&M in town.

Eddins-Bennett said capacity inside Legion Field will return to 100% for the first post-COVID Classic.

If you’re still looking for tailgating space this year, you’ll probably want to line up at the stadium long before the remaining passes go on sale on October 24.

Eddins-Bennett said lots will be color-coded this year and driving from one lot to another will not be permitted.

The 81st Magic City Classic will take place on October 29 at Legion Field.
