CRISTIANO RONALDO is reportedly building a new mansion in one of Portugal’s most prestigious residential areas.

The Manchester United striker, 37, bought the most expensive apartment ever sold in Lisbon last year – a £6.5million property including a gym and indoor swimming pool.

The father-of-five has also splashed out more than £7million on a large plot at Quinta da Marinha on the so-called Portuguese Riviera, according to Portuguese media.

Work has just begun on the respected Portuguese daily mansion Correio de Manha said will be the latest addition to the football star’s property empire.

He says CR7 plans to use the house as an investment, although popular magazine TV 7 Dias claimed he plans to use it as a family home after he retires.

A source described as a future neighbor told the magazine: “The land was fenced in recently and it was bought by Ronaldo. “This is where he comes to live with his family at the end of his career.

“Everyone here knows that and of course we are happy. Ronaldo is Ronaldo.”

Quinta da Marinha is half an hour from Lisbon airport and ten minutes from the center of the coastal town of Cascais, the premier holiday destination on the Lisbon coast.

Cristiano also owns a £4.8million mansion in a gated fortress estate called La Finca near Madrid where Gareth Bale also lives.

He showed the house in a video posted in December 2015, giving fans a tour of his bedroom, living room, dining room and garden and wishing people a Merry Christmas.

Before moving into his expensive Lisbon apartment, he sold a mansion for £2million to his former Real Madrid team-mate Pepe in Geres, northern Portugal.

He would have used the money from this sale to buy his building in Funchal.
