“My ideas are limitless” – Meet Colm Dillane before his KidSuper Comedy show in Paris

It is late last Thursday evening in Paris. In a soft icy sleet, I slam over cobblestones on a beat-up Lime bike, a bit late, to meet Colm Dillane. In this town you can only park your e-rides in designated areas so I rush to the location closest to the rundown house that has been AirBnb’d to act as KidSuperbefore Saturday night’s show. As I approach, a vaguely suspicious figure also tries to park his bike while tapping on his phone. Hooded under a puffer jacket and wearing pants with handwritten letters that I suddenly recognize, I see that it’s Dillane.

“You ride a bike too! And you’re late too, he said. I can’t conceive of many designers who bowed on one of the menswear catwalks hours earlier – in the case of Dillane Louis Vuitton, where he was “embarked” for the season to design with the LV team who would gladly use this mode of transport. Of these pants, the result of an exercise where Dillane asked the 70-strong menswear design studio LV to write love letters, which were then turned into clothes, he says: “Yes, they are from today. I stole them! I don’t know if I should return them.

We head to the house, which is filled with Dillane’s KidSuper team and a group of friends. He says they all share another Airbnb as a crash pad, and that’s three for a bed. Dillane has just emerged from a Vuitton drinks event, and is still pumped up about her collection of cameos and her show – which featured many other cameo performances – for the house. “Rosalia – wow! This performance.. And of course Michel [Gondry] shaped the video and the scenography, there was Ib and the studio: I just tried to put my grain of salt into it.

Tonight, Saturday, Dillane will perform her second show in three days. KidSuper takes place at the Casino de Paris, and just like last season’s terrific auction, Dillane is determined to keep his tracks different. This season, the format has already been revealed as a stand-up comedy show. Here tonight, “Roastmaster General” Jeff Ross hangs out and gears up as he formulates comedic exocets to shoot fashion. Typically, for KidSuper’s open-door policy, the show will be filled with collaborations — a new shoe line with Stuart Weitzman and a jewelry edition with Vuitton’s artistic director of watches and jewelry. Francesca Amfitheatrof‘s own line, Pauer. In an email, she says, “It’s about making jewelry out of art. Using Colm’s original artwork for KidSuper, the pieces hang like paint on nails… Limited edition pendants, brooches and earrings that have been designed to be collectable.
