It’s been a few weeks now Hocus Pocus 2 cast a spell over Disney+ viewers, breaking records for the streaming service and giving millennials the sequel they’ve been waiting for nearly 30 years.
Easter eggs were hidden all over the sequel, and nods to the original movie could be found everywhere, like Madonna’s iconic costume from the first movie. worn by an East Greenwich, Rhode Island, native and the quick clip of two gentlemen seemingly watching the first film as Winifred flies.
Did you notice any other familiar faces while watching Hocus Pocus 2, which was largely filmed in Rhode Island last year? If you look closely, you’ll see 25-year-old New Bedford native Alana Monteiro, who’s been busy making a name for herself in the Big Apple.
Who is Alana Monteiro?
“Growing up, I had no idea what modeling was,” Monteiro admitted, but after watching a Victoria’s Secret fashion show at the age of 17, a fire was lit and a passion started to bloom.
“I remember thinking, ‘How do I get there? How do I do that?’ I took the initiative and started applying to agencies,” she said, often hopping on the bus to New York for open casting calls.
Just before graduating from high school, she was signed to an agency and, since 2017, has been involved in 16 film and television projects.
Thanks to her latest gig, she can add Disney to her resume.
Monteiro gets the call for Hocus Pocus 2
Monteiro saw a casting call posted for Hocus Pocus 2 and immediately signed up.
“I grew up watching the first one; it was one of my favorite movies, and so I had to do it,” she said.
She was familiar with movie sets, but there was an added layer of excitement knowing that this one was affiliated with Disney and the Sanderson sisters. Monteiro had always hoped to be in a Disney movie, and his dream was coming true.
When Monteiro met the sisters
Not only did Monteiro meet the witches, but she also had her own scene with them.
“They actually came up to me, introduced themselves, and thanked me for being there,” she shared. “And they took me out (from the crowd) to be in a scene with them in the background, which is now the homepage of Disney+.”

At the age of 25, Monteiro has managed to develop an impressive career working with companies such as Disney and Marvel and amassing over 1 million social media followers.
