In the early 1930s, Austrian American architect RM Schindler designed what is believed to be the first modern A-Frame in the United States for Gisela Bennati in Lake Arrowhead, California. Later, during the post-war boom, the style of construction grew in popularity as the upper middle class found themselves with higher disposable income, and since A-frames were relatively cheap to build, they are quickly become a favorite style for vacation homes. Although this is only A-frame history of the United States, it should be noted that the style was already common in other regions and cultures, such as in Japan as farmhouses and among the Maori as meeting houses.
