Scottish village named one of Airbnb’s best places to stay this Easter

THIS weekend is your last chance to take an Easter getaway before the kids go back to school and luckily there are still plenty of places to go.

So leave flight delays, airport chaos and Covid testing behind, and take the family on a great Scottish holiday.

But where to go? It looks like one of the most popular places to holiday in the UK this Easter is right on our doorstep – Balloch.

Gite rental experts Airbnb have revealed the UK’s trendiest holiday destinations, with the charming village on the shores of Loch Lomond one of the top 10 – and it’s easy to see why.

It is often called the gateway to the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park and finding a place to stay not only opens up to a multitude of day trips and activities, but there are also fabulous shops and restaurants.

Shores of Loch Lomond has plenty of indoor, outdoor and water activities, as well as shops to hang out and eat.

Spend an exciting day at Tree areaan aerial adventure course, or observe a variety of magnificent species Loch Lomond Birds of Prey Center or see the sea life at the Loch Lomond Sea Life Aquarium.

Balloch Castle Nature Park at the east end of the village there is plenty of space for walks and recreation and you can take a water bus across the loch to Luss or Balmaha.

And for the truly fit and active, the 17-mile West Loch Lomond Cycle Route follows the western shores of Loch Lomond to Luss and continues to Tarbet.

Balloch is one of only two Scottish locations to feature on the much-requested ‘staycation’ wish list – along with the pretty seaside town of dunbar in East Lothian. This is the perfect location for those looking for a quiet waterfront getaway.

Nicknamed ‘Sunny Dunny’ it’s a great place to take the dog as there are some fabulous coastal walks, surf for those who are crazy about a shot on a board and for earthlings who relieve themselves with a chippy at the harbor .

seaside town Prestatyn in Wales topped the list of trending destinations after seeing the biggest increase in the number of Britons looking for holidays on the platform.

Other destinations include the quaint English market towns of Thirsk and Chipping Norton for visitors to soak up local heritage, and perhaps Jeremy Clarkson’s farm!

Amanda Cupples, Managing Director for Northern Europe at Airbnb, said: “The nation is set to enjoy the first Easter weekend without Covid restrictions in two years, and it’s great to see that Britons are exploring emerging regions of the UK to make the most of it.

“The list of trending destinations is an inspiration for those looking to get away from it all and explore somewhere new over the long weekend.
