Best Sedona Neighborhoods to Stay
Compared to many other US destinations, Sedona is quite compact, but it offers distinct neighborhoods, especially when booking a vacation rental. Here are the main areas to consider when booking an Airbnb:
- Downtown Sedona is basically its tourist hub, where you’ll find most of the hotels, restaurants, and the open-air mall at Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village. This is also where you’ll find most of its traffic, but if you stay here you can avoid parking nightmares and walk to and from dinner.
- West Sedona is a residential area with many affordable rental options. You may have to drive a bit more here, but hikers will appreciate that many Airbnbs are within walking distance of the trailheads. This is also where most of the grocery stores in town are located, if you plan to use your Airbnb’s kitchen.
- Chapel is another fairly residential neighborhood located just south of Uptown Sedona. (It takes its name from the Chapel of the Holy Crossbuilt directly into the red rock mountains of Sedona.) Here you will find vacation rentals with great access to the hiking trails around cathedral rock and swimming holes along Oak Creek.
- For people looking for something a little more remote, you can also search outside the city limits for rentals in and around Oak Creek Canyon just north or Red Rock Loop area near Red Rock State Park.

This Airbnb’s location gives you easy walking access to shops and restaurants in Uptown Sedona, about half a mile away. Recently remodeled, this four-bedroom, four-bathroom home is ideal for large groups traveling together.
Inside, you’ll find sleek decor by Restoration Hardware and Jonathan Adler, as well as gorgeous tile in the bathrooms and kitchen. But the expansive red rock views will keep you outdoors as much as possible. The hot tub and pool heating are included in the rental cost.
Families traveling with children can avail themselves of all sorts of child-friendly equipment, including a Maxi Cosi single stroller, a guava pack with sheets and a Deuter hiking child carrier suitable for children up to 50 pounds . (Baby gates are also permanently installed at the bottom and top of the stairs.)
West of Sedona Airbnbs
Escape to the top of the mountain

Centrally located on the main road (89A) that runs from Uptown to West Sedona, this two-bedroom, two-bathroom Airbnb offers enough space for a party of seven to be comfortable. When you want to be active, the Sedona Airport Loop Trail is accessible via a short walk from the back yard. Afterward, relax on the daybed on the front deck and take in the sunset and unobstructed vistas of the surrounding red rock mountains.
Halona House

With three bedrooms spread over 3,000 square feet, Halona House offers plenty of space and privacy for a larger group traveling together. The two master bedrooms, located on opposite ends of the home, are furnished with king-size Tuft & Needle or Sealy Posturpedic mattresses. The third bedroom, off the living room, has a queen-size bed and an additional daybed. The three bedrooms have their own bathroom.
When you’re ready to explore, the Sugar Loaf starting point is within walking distance of about a mile. The host includes a Red Rock parking pass so you don’t have to pay for parking if you choose to drive to any of the US Forest Service trailheads or heritage sites in the zone.
Keep in mind there is an additional $100 per day charge to keep the pool heated. And while the pool can’t be heated between November and February, the host has just added a brand new hot tub to the property. If you are traveling with young children, a high chair, backpack, stroller and more are available on request.

Located on 2.5 acres on the edge of the National Forest in West Sedona, this adobe-style Airbnb has a rural feel, but all the downtown shops and restaurants are just a 10-minute drive away. With one bedroom and two bathrooms, this Airbnb also features a double Murphy bed that folds out from a bookcase in the living room.
The highlight of this Airbnb is the west-facing infinity pool — open May 1 through October 31 each year — which is the perfect place to watch the sunset. Although the property’s hot tub is reserved for tenants of this Airbnb, the infinity pool is shared with the Airbnb Studio located on the same property (you can rent it here).

Hilltop Lounge is an apt name for this cozy three-bedroom, two-bath home on Airport Road between West Sedona and Uptown. Don’t expect to be blown away by the decor, but never mind when the living room and outdoor patio have views like this. Hikers also take note: This house is about half a mile from the Airport Mesa trailhead, which is the start and finish point for the 5.2 miles. Sedona Airport Loop Trail.

Located in the Back O Beyond subdivision in Chapel, this adobe-style home has direct access to the Oak Creek swimming holes from its backyard, so be sure to pack your costume. Inside, the spacious living room is decorated in sage greens and oak wood details that reflect the natural landscape outside. With three bedrooms and three bathrooms there is plenty of space and privacy for large groups. But you’ll have to draw straws to determine who gets the master bedroom which comes with its own wood-burning fireplace.
Half a mile down the road, hikers will find the trailhead for the Cathedral Rock Trail. Although it’s only 1.20 miles round trip, the 740 foot elevation gain and challenging rock scrambles at the top make it difficult. But if you’re feeling up to it, the sunsets are worth it.
Airbnb Plus Backpackers Haven

The name of this Airbnb Plus gives it a rustic air, but you’ll find that the chic blue and white interiors of this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home are anything but. Hiker’s Haven’s nickname comes from the house’s proximity to several popular trailheads. You can join both the mystical path and the Chapel Trail less than a half mile walk. Architecture buffs will also want to add a stop to the Chapel of the Holy Cross, designed by Marguerite Brunswig Staude, student of Frank Lloyd Wright. Built directly into the face of the red rock mountain in the 1950s, it is one of Sedona’s most recognizable landmarks.
