One of the most exciting times of the year is fast approaching for baseball fans – spring training. Even though Arizona and Florida are where the games are held, Las Vegas has become the home of “Big League Weekend”. This year the Colorado Rockies, Cincinnati Reds, Oakland Athleticsand Kansas City Royals will travel to Sin City to play at the Las Vegas Ballpark. Where to stay
Even though it’s about 25 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, there are still plenty of places to stay in the area. The Las Vegas Ballpark is in an area called Summerlin, one of the nicest neighborhoods in town. The stadium itself is located in the Downtown Summerlin area. It’s right next to where the Vegas Golden Knights practice.
There are four different hotel options: Suncoast, Rampart, Marriott, and Red Rock. Suncoast, Rampart, and Marriott are only about five minutes away by car. Red Rock, on the other hand, is right next to and easily walkable from the stadium. Since it’s Las Vegas, there will also be plenty of Airbnb and VRBO options to choose from. There are many neighborhoods around the stadium that make this possible.
Where to Park at the Las Vegas Spring Training Game
The stadium is offering a pay-at-the-park option for the Las Vegas spring training game, but that’s not the only offering. As the stadium is close to a very busy area, there are options to park a bit further away, but they are free. One of these options is at Red Rock, the hotel mentioned above. Red Rock doubles as a casino, so they have a huge parking lot where fans can park for free. Another free option is behind downtown Summerlin across from I-215. Both are about a five to 10 minute walk away, but you can easily save money by not paying to park if you want.
what to eat
If you are coming from out of town, downtown Summerlin is the place to be. There are many restaurants to choose from depending on your mood and what you want. There are some great places to eat if you want a date before the Las Vegas spring training game, like Trattoria Reggiano, one of the best Italian spots. You can also head to places like Public School 702 or Frankie’s Uptown if you’re in a more laid back mood. Red Rock also offers many dining options.
If you stay at Rampart, Marriott or Suncoast you are very close to two different areas called Boca Park and Tivoli Village. Boca Park is full of different options, ranging from Cheesecake Factory to Chick-Fil-A. Tivoli is not as big but has some great restaurants as well as amazing scenery for photos.
What to do when you’re not watching the game
It all depends on what you like to do. If you’re a gamer, there are plenty of different options, even if you don’t want to drive to the Strip. Red Rock, Suncoast and Rampart are all nice casinos where the locals gamble, so they’ll always be busy and fun. If you’re willing to drive and pay for parking, the Las Vegas Strip is also about 25 minutes from the stadium.
If you’re not a gamer, there’s an area called Red Rock Canyon that’s about a 10-minute drive from the stadium. It has some of the most amazing hiking trails and picturesque views in Las Vegas. There are also many golf courses around the area such as Angel Park and Arroyo Golf Club. The weather in March will be perfect for hiking and being outdoors. There really is something to do in this area without watching the game.
