This Texas Airbnb ‘dome home’ geodesic darling is now on the market
Central Texas is full of quirky and unconventional real estate, but it’s not every day that they are brought to market.
Familiarize yourself with this Austin domed house, a new staple on your Pinterest board, or the topic of your next home visit. Among architecturally curious houses, this gem of a geodesic structure is a leading competitor.
Once the darling of the Texas Airbnb scene, this unique home in Austin’s West Lake Hills area is now on the market. Built in 1973 and inspired by the developments of famed American architect and futurist Buckminster Fuller, it’s safe to say this would be a worthy and iconic investment. That is, if a $ 2,150,000 home is in your price range.
The property, located on just under an acre, is a gentle escape from city life but also overlooks the downtown Austin skyline and offers panoramic views of the Westlake Hill Country.
In 2019, this Stone Hedge Estates community property was ranked number one in Austin by Airbnb and was a Airbnb Plus list, with people from all over the world willing to pay a pretty penny for a stay.
The 1,872 square foot two story home features two full bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms. The property also includes a wraparound porch, balcony, carports and bamboo wood floors.
Geodesic domes were patented by Fuller in 1954, according to the US Patent and Trademark Office. He invented their unique mathematical structure, which was once considered the new wave of suburban homes due to their assumed heating and cooling efficiency. However, they never really took off.
While Space isn’t the only geodesic dome house in Texas, it is one of the few. If you have the cash to spare and are looking to live in a house with an architectural history, or if you just want to throw the fanciest dinners, then hurry to book a visit with a real estate agent.
