San Diego, California is a beautiful place to visit anytime of the year – and the perfect destination for a winter retreat. If you are curious about what this Southern California city has to offer, wonder no more. Here are 7 reasons why you should visit San Diego in winter 2021.
1. The weather is wonderful
Southern California is known for its year round sunshine, and San Diego is no exception. The area cools down a bit in the winter compared to the summer months, however, this can be a perfect getaway for those looking for pleasant weather, but not too hot. Daytime temperatures generally hover between 70 and 80 from November to February. Even nighttime temperatures rarely drop below the mid-1940s, which means a visit here will require a light coat or comfortable sweater at worst.

One of the best reasons to visit San Diego? His beaches ! Summer may be the most popular time to visit, however, there are also perks to a day at the beach during the winter months. For starters, it’s a great way to beat the crowds. The normally bustling beaches also turn into a great place for more serene winter activities, including a laid-back bonfire or a romantic sunset stroll. Water temperatures in San Diego get quite cold in the winter and can be too cold for a casual swim. Still, snorkeling (with a wetsuit) and scuba diving are popular activities year round. For some specific ranges you will want to check, think of Fiesta Island for a group bonfire. La Jolla cove is probably the best for seeing marine life, while Coronado Beach is a great spot for bonfires and evening walks (as well as being close to a seaside ice rink in winter).

In addition to housing several historic buildings, the Old Town also offers self-guided tours of what’s known as one of America’s most haunted houses – the Whaley House. LA can boast of some famous shopping areas such as Rodeo Drive, but San Diego has great shopping areas just as many. Thanks to the region’s pleasant climate all year round, it has also become synonymous with outdoor shopping centers. This makes it a great option for those worried about the pandemic in more enclosed spaces. Fashion Valley Shopping Center, as well as Westfield UTC, offer a fantastic variety of stores. They also offer a few additional attractions such as Westfield Ice Rink. You can also go to Port village, a collection of seaside stores ranging from local brands to mainstream brands.
