“It’s an awesome night hanging out in Chapel Hill. We were just passing through, were going to a hockey game and decided to stay and see what Tar Heel life was like. What did they say? It’s a great day to be a Tar Heel. It was a happy accident that we ended up here. Some of the best things in life happen organically.

“I went there last year, but I don’t think I went when they closed it. Maybe it was after. It’s amazing, some of these people have really creative outfits and I I’m a little jealous. I wish they’d closed the streets because it’s not safe, but that’s okay.”

Caroline KujawaUNC Senior Exercise and Sports Science Major

“This is my first time on Franklin Street due to COVID-19 and it was raining my freshman year. When we were walking around earlier I thought it was going to be empty but it’s not that much fun. masked guys scare us.

“I went there in first grade but it didn’t shut down either. It was fun, but I’m sad it didn’t get shut down. It was fun to see everyone’s costumes.

“I like seeing everyone in their costumes. There was a guy on stilts and he had a red mask on. I don’t know what he was but it’s really cool. I think it was a bit upsetting because I was expecting to go out on the street, but it was fun.

Kiki Taylornail technician and business owner

“It’s definitely a little tradition to come here when you can. We wanted the streets closed, so that’s the only downside. I’m glad to be out. We don’t go out often, but Halloween is one of our favorite holidays, so we go all out, as you can see.

Share Elliott, Taylor’s assistant

“It’s the people who make the event, so even with the cars and everything, it’s always good.”
