You’ve Never Seen This Item on Iowa’s Facebook Marketplace Before

Have you ever hit the market button when browsing Facebook trying to kill time during the day? The Facebook Marketplace can be a fascinating rabbit hole to dive into. If you’re looking for a specific item or just want to shop the internet, Facebook’s Marketplace is a great place to start. It’s also a fantastic way to kill 30 minutes if you’re waiting at the DMV or the doctor’s office.

You can find everything from clothes, musical instruments, computers, grills, furniture… the list is endless. I’m not saying you haven’t found some interesting or truly unique items on the Iowa Facebook Marketplace, but I bet you’ve never seen an item like this before.

My fiancé was driving around the eastern section of Iowa, just to browse. She is always on the lookout for home decorations, furniture and items for our cats. Most of these things drive me crazy because I don’t think we need them. She fell on an object at which we raised our eyebrows, then we started to laugh.

When we read the description we both thought “this must be a joke”. I found out it was after speaking with the seller. I’ll have more later. When she found this, we had a ton of questions right off the bat; How do you get one of these? Do people really buy them? What would you use it for? Why would you want one? Does it work?

Can you fill in the blank and determine what the article is? The description reads “Perfect gift for that felon or ex-con in your life! Here’s a brand new, unboxed ______ _____. Located in Cedar Rapids. First Cash, No Holdbacks.” When you read a description like that, you can’t help but click on the item.

I contacted Jason, the owner of the item being sold and he told me

“I was joking with a friend before I submitted the article, I told him I was about to blow up the internet. My messenger has been very active since I submitted it. I actually started with 5 of them and I sold 4. at garage sales in the spring/summer.My dad used to buy packages from the government surplus websites and that’s how I acquired them.

There is no chance that you have seen a correction center phone (jail phone) sold before. The description is fantastic and really made me laugh.

Would you know what to do with one of these if you had one? I could see it being used as a decoration in a man cave or something, but I’d have no idea what else I could use it for. I also wouldn’t know where to start when thinking of an asking price if I sold one.

You’ve probably seen some pretty unique items for sale on Facebook’s Marketplace, but have you ever seen a jail cell phone? I hope if you need to use this item it’s for personal research and not because… well, you’re in jail. This might not be your crazy Uncle Ted’s favorite holiday gift he gets this year, but I’m sure it would be the most unique gift he’s ever received.
