Nervous neighbors after deadly party in Prague

PRAGUE, Okla. (KFOR) – The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the death of a 35-year-old man it happened early Thursday morning after he was shot and killed at a party.

Lincoln County deputies were called to the scene by the alleged shooter and a witness at 12:07 a.m.

Upon arrival, the deputies asked OBSI to investigate as well.

Based on OBSI’s initial investigation, special agents said there was a party at the residence where the alleged shooter lives.

The man who lives at the home had an altercation with another man, according to OBSI.

The alleged shooter then went to his room and the other man followed him.

That’s where officers said the victim was shot and killed.

A neighbour, Jenna Shackelford, said she went out and noticed many lights coming from the house across from hers.

“There was a man standing there shouting how they were, you know, good friends and why did this happen? Why did he do this? And says he just had a birthday? It was very sad and a little shocking to know that this is happening right across the street. I hadn’t met the people. They had just moved in maybe a month ago,” Shackelford explained.

Shackelford only lived in his house for about a year and a half, but said it was only ever a quiet neighborhood.

“We haven’t had any issues with thieves or people who, you know, are crawling around when they shouldn’t be or anything like that. So, I mean, I was very shocked,” Shackelford said.

Shackelford, along with other neighbors who declined to appear on camera, said they never heard a gunshot.

Some neighbors told KFOR they were urging OBSI to investigate why no one nearby could hear the gunshots.

Another neighbor who declined to be filmed and requested anonymity told KFOR she believed the alleged gunman and victim were roommates.

The alleged shooter was arrested and held for investigation in Lincoln County Jail, but OBSI said he has since been released and does not currently face any charges.

Neighbors said they are now worried about their children after his release.

News 4 knocked on the door where the incident happened, but no one was home.

A truckload of people arrived a few minutes later, and KFOR knocked on the door again once they entered the house.

Again, no one answered.

There were individuals parked in the driveway in the same truck.

News 4 attempted to ask those people for comment, but a woman in the driver’s seat said the word “no” and waved a crew away.

A woman then called the KFOR newsroom to say the shooting was in self-defense, but refused to go on camera.

OBSI has not confirmed whether it was self-defense or not.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to OBSI.

The final decision on whether or not the alleged shooter will face charges rests with the Lincoln County prosecutor’s office, OBSI said.
