Airbnb guest says she was robbed from Viral TikTok, commenters say

In a viral video shared on ICT Tac earlier this month, an Airbnb guest claimed the property she was renting had been broken into and her belongings stolen.

In the clip, which was uploaded by TikTok user Sylvia (@sylpal), she showed how the keypad entry lock in the Dallas, Texas apartment was broken. She went on to detail all of the stolen items, including a pair of AirPods, her iPad and much of her makeup. Curiously, however, none of the property’s televisions were taken and only Sylvia’s items were missing.

When she contacted the authorities, she was informed that there were no signs of a break-in at the property. These details immediately set comments on the clip, which has over two million views, to blame the hosts. Some even suggested it was a “trick”.

@sylpal Airbnb hosts are not required to change keypad passcodes after each rental!! Be careful booking with them #airbnb #traveltiktok #BBPlayDate #ShowYourJOWO #FORDfortheBuilders #flight #dallas ♬ original sound – Sylvia

As Sylvia pointed out in the video, Airbnb hosts are not required to change the entry code to properties when a new guest arrives. It is therefore possible that a previous customer was responsible for the theft, although Airbnb Terms and Conditions advise guests “to update the combination between stays and ensure that no one else has access to the keys when booking”.

Sylvia has yet to provide an update on the situation, although the TikTok community has already decided who is behind the crime.
