Christmas Market Holidays are now on sale for Berlin and Paris – deals from £124 pp

There’s nothing like mulled wine under twinkling lights to get you into the festive mood.

So we’ve selected six European cities known for their amazing Christmas markets where you can do just that.

Berlin – from November 21

Berlin is one of the best cities for Christmas markets and there are plenty to choose from.

WeihnachtsZauber at Gendarmenmarkt, Christmas Market at Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, and Berliner Weihnachtszeit at Rotes Rathaus are some of the larger and more popular options.

Almost every market will have traditional chalet-style huts with gluhwein (the German version of mulled wine) and food stalls selling things like raclette.

You can also buy traditional crafts and Christmas decorations.

However, since there are so many different markets in the city, it doesn’t matter where you stay.

One of the cheapest deals we found for Berlin was for a 2 night stay at the 4* NH Berlin Alexanderplatz.

Basel – from 23 November

Located on the border of France and Germany, the Swiss city of Basel is normally known for its summer activities, such as swimming along the Rhine.

But in winter, this cosmopolitan city hosts two of the biggest and most beautiful Christmas markets in Switzerland – at Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz.

Luckily, they’re very close to each other, so it’s easy to enjoy both in one day.

You can get to Basel in several ways, but the nearest airport is actually across the French border.

British Airways has one of the cheapest deals, with prices starting at £224 per person.

Prague – from November 26

Cheap Prague is another city that hosts a few Christmas markets.

Two of the largest are in Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square.

These are both centrally located and they are close enough to walk.

Expect plenty of traditional handicrafts for gifts, as well as hearty and delicious food and drink while you shop.

There are plenty of budget deals in the Czech capital, so you can really take your pick.

One we spotted was for 2 nights at the Tivoli 3* in the heart of the city on a room only basis.

Vienna – from November 10

The Austrian capital of Vienna already looks like something out of a fairy tale, but at Christmas it really comes into its own.

There are plenty of Christmas markets throughout the city to choose from and most have stunning buildings as backdrops.

And unlike Christmas markets elsewhere, these start as early as mid-November.

Among the most impressive are the Viennese Dream Christmas Market in front of the Town Hall, the Schönbrunn Palace Christmas Market and the Belvedere Palace in the Christmas Village.

Thanks to it being such a popular destination for a city break, there are plenty of deals to be found.

Paris – from November 19

Paris has plenty to do throughout the year, so it might not be the most obvious Christmas market destination, but there are dozens that pop up around the city throughout the season. celebrations.

For most people the best is La Magie de Noël in the Tuileries Gardens where you have around 100 stalls all set up and eager to go.

There is also the La Défense Christmas market, which is one of the biggest in the city with over 300 stalls.

Again, the popularity of Paris means there are plenty on offer – and you can pair that with a visit to Disneyland Paris.

Brussels – from 25 November

The Brussels Christmas Market is a sprawling market that spans a few streets, but start at the Marché aux Poissons and you can’t go wrong.

Usually there are a few hundred stalls selling everything from arts and crafts to food and drink.

On the large squares there is also ice skating and curling.

One of the cheapest and closest hotels nearby is the Ibis Sainte Catherine 3* hotel – republic of travel has a 2 night stay there from £186 pp.
