Dive Australia’s first floating reef now on the GC

Get your fins ready and put on your wetsuit, reef wonder is finally here.

Wonder Reef is Australia’s highly anticipated premier dive destination. The newest part of the Gold Coast Dive Trail, this ecotourism attraction takes underwater experiences for certified divers to a whole new level.

What makes this diving experience so special is that it is the world’s first floating reef. Roughly twenty meters above the ocean floor, you’ll find nine giant floating sculptural reefs teeming with marine life. One of eleven dive sites that show off the Gold Coast’s many reefs, wrecks and cliffs, Wonder Reef’s opening is the perfect excuse to make a day out of it and explore the incredible seascapes hidden below the surface.

Wonder Reef is not just for divers. The entire structure has been carefully designed to accommodate and support all manner of marine life. Expect to see everything from lobsters and tropical fish to turtles and an octopus or two, thriving among six species of coral. Artificial reefs allow our marine environment to recover without further damaging the natural landscape, transforming a once deserted part of the ocean into an oasis of color and life.

Keep in mind that Wonder Reef is not casual scuba diving. These floating behemoths are currently reserved for the eyes of certified divers. Being floating reefs, they have their own patterns of movement, swaying and swaying with the ocean as if each structure were alive. You can dive up to 30 meters deep in the fresh waters of the Gold Coast at any time of the year.

If you are not a certified diver, this is your sign to join Queensland Scuba Diving and get your certification. For all diving professionals, Gold Coast Dive Adventures organizes daily diving excursions. You can even book a public mooring and get out your own rig to experience the wonder just 10 minutes from shore.
