Kari Lake suspended from Twitter over attack announcement

Gubernatorial candidate and former Phoenix news anchor Kari Lake was suspended from Twitter Friday morning for her latest attack ad against GOP opponent Karrin Taylor Robson.

With just over a week until the Aug. 2 primary, the race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination has turned into a slander, with both candidates accusing the other of being a fake conservative. Taylor Robson’s campaign rolled out new brands who accuse Lake of being a “never Trump,” based on an old Facebook post from Lake’s more liberal days.

Lake, meanwhile, recently noticed the Arizona Republicreports from april about Taylor Robson’s dodgy campaign finance tactics, which tricked unwitting elderly donors into recurring donations — and harassed his opponent for it. “She’s a thief!” a recent announcement said. The video, posted on Twitter, has racked up hundreds of thousands of views.

The ad, however, apparently exposed “private information” by displaying a phone number, at least according to Twitter. It is unclear whether the personal information belonged to Robson or one of the seniors she solicited donations from. A Twitter spokesperson told The Daily Beast that Lake was “required to delete the offending Tweet” before regaining access to the account.

Lake immediately cried out for censorship.

“We have to be right over the target,” Lake said in a Telegram post with a photo of his locked Twitter account. “The RINOs, the media, the left and big tech – they’re ALL trying to bring down our movement.” She then asked supporters for donations.

“It’s awfully rich (and not in a gold panning sense) that Karrin is complaining to Twitter because we exposed his predatory scheme to dupe the elderly out of retirement,” wrote manager Ross Trumble. communications for Lake’s campaign, in an email to new times Friday.

Lake’s concerns about Taylor Robson’s fundraising tactics are not without merit – but Lake has also come under scrutiny for his own money recently. The Republic reported this week that a political action committee that invested $2.1 million in Lake’s campaign appears to be traced back to a sleazy shell company.

Later Friday, Lake reappeared on Twitter, having apparently deleted the problematic video. She reposted a new version of the video, with testimonials retirees who unknowingly donated to Taylor Robson.

Taylor Robson’s campaign did not respond to questions from new times.

Lake’s suspension from the platform came the same day she was scheduled to speak alongside former President Donald Trump at his rally in Prescott Valley. Trump has been one of Lake’s top campaign benefactors.

Also on Friday, former Vice President Mike Pence was scheduled to travel to Arizona for Taylor Robson.
