New Hobbit House Airbnb opens in South Sioux City

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) – Lots of people use apps like Airbnb to book accommodations when they leave.

A unique Airbnb is now open and available for booking right here in Siouxland… and it’s unlike anything you’ve seen before.

“It’s a great place to get away from it all and relax from today’s world,” Knecht said.

While building his Airbnb Treehouse, Darwin Knecht had another idea for a unique place to stay… a Hobbit House.

After about 14 months of work, his idea became reality… transforming part of Siouxland into the fantasy world of Middle-earth.

“You will never remember the hotel you were in. Nobody remembers it. It’s just another room. But something unique will always stay in your mind. Whether you had a good time and a moment of relaxation, ”Knecht said.

When you first enter the hobbit-sized house, you’ll come across a quote from the book. The house can accommodate up to four people with two beds and a small sitting area.

Knecht said he hopes guests who come for the Hobbit experience venture out into the community.

“There is a lot to offer here. This is one of the most important things they ask us is where to go to see the different sights, where are the places to go? Restaurants, bars, parks? And we have a list of them that we give to them and send to them, “Knecht said.

Jacob Metz, Knecht’s son-in-law, said that although they faced challenges along the way, their hard work paid off.

“I am very proud of what we have accomplished and of what is to come,” said Jacob Metz.

When you step inside, it is like entering the mythical region of the County.

“That’s my big thing. I like to pay attention to the details and just make it something that you’re not going to see,” Knecht said.

While the interior of the Hobbit house is finished, Knecht says he’s still working on some landscaping that, when completed, will feature a fire pit and waterfall.
