passengers will arrive almost 24 hours after the scheduled time

Lack of information, interminable wait, U-turn in mid-flight… Travelers on the Nice-Luxembourg flight will have to remember this journey on Friday 15 April for a long time.

Big hassle for the passengers of flight V72578 which was to connect Nice Côte d’Azur airport to that of Luxembourg, Friday April 15. While their trip was supposed to last 1h30, they will finally take almost 24 hours to reach their destination.

The plane chartered by Volotea was scheduled to take off at 7:35 p.m. from Nice Côte d’Azur airport. But even before that time, travelers saw trouble coming. “At 7 p.m., we were notified that the flight would be 1h15 late, without having more info”report Johanna, a student from Nice who travels with her parents.

Around 8:45 p.m., already more than an hour and ten minutes after the original departure time, boarding finally begins. “In the middle of boarding, they stop boarding passengers because another plane was using the same corridor”explains the girl. “Some of the passengers on the flight were held in a separate room before being allowed to board our plane. because they were forced to let passengers from another flight pass, which was on time, and as a result, they had priority”, confirms Sophia, a Luxembourger also embarked on this interminable flight.

While Johanna and her family have already boarded the aircraft, they are told that the plane was initially delayed at Luxembourg airport (on its outward journey) because baggage that did not belong to a traveler was present. in the hold. It would have taken the Luxembourg team an hour to find the baggage and remove it from the aircraft.

Around 9:30 p.m., two hours after the scheduled departure, the plane finally took off. But the troubles are just beginning.

After an hour of flight, the plane turned around and we were told that the plane could not land in Luxembourg.

The airline announces to passengers in mid-flight that Luxembourg airport is closed and that the plane will finally land in Lyon, more than 500 km from its destination.

Arrived in Lyon, dazed, the passengers of the flight V72578 wait another 1h30 in the airport after having collected their luggage. No snacks are distributed to them, travelers must take their troubles patiently. Around 12:30 a.m., they are informed of the rest of their journey: they will finally be picked up at a hotel near the airport, without being sure of when and how they will end up arriving in Luxembourg.

“Arrived at the hotel, we still have no information, trace Johanna. We were told we would definitely take a bus but we didn’t know where or when. It will be necessary to wait until they stick sheets in the corridors and the elevators to know the continuation. While travelers check into hotel rooms around 1:30 a.m., some have been advised to get up at 5 a.m. so as not to miss the bus, Sophia says.

The bus that was announced at 10 a.m. finally arrives on Saturday April 16 in the morning at 10:30 a.m. to pick up the tired and exasperated travelers. Once they left, the passengers were able to benefit from a lunch paid for by the Volotea company.

“The company apologizes for these inconveniences,” writes Volotea in response to our questions. The company indicates that the flight had to land in Lyon “due to the curfew imposed by Luxembourg airport”. “Each time, the only concern of the Volotea teams was to offer the best possible solution to its passengers. The company therefore offered the night in a hotel, breakfast included, to all passengers and put buses ready to reach Luxembourg the next morning”, complete the communication from the Spanish airline. A meager compensation for these people who seem determined not to take any more tickets with this company.

Sophia says to herself “disgusted” :

That there are delays, I can understand but there, I do not understand! I came on vacation to Nice to clear my head and this is how it ends! I am disgusted…

“We already have our tickets for the return with the same company, Johanna is sorry, but after that we won’t have to deal with them anymore, that’s for sure! The lack of information, when our trip makes no sense, is really annoying!”
