Pleasant Home, Opp Volleyball Teams Advance to Birmingham State Tournament

Volleyball teams Pleasant Home and Opp picked up two wins at the South Super Regional this week in Montgomery to qualify for next week’s State Volleyball Tournament in Birmingham.

The Lady Eagles (18-12) swept Southern Choctaw and Maplesville 3-0 on Wednesday to clinch their spot. Pleasant Home finished the region with a 3-0 sweep over rivals Kinston but fell to University Charter 3-1 in the regional championship game on Thursday night.

The Lady Bobcats (13-17) swept Childersburg and Ashford 3-0 Thursday to earn their second-place finish in a state tournament in school history. Opp fell to Prattville Christian 3-0 and Houston Academy 3-0 to complete Friday regional.

Eight teams from each class will be placed into pre-drawn brackets for state championship tournaments. The game is knockout with a best 3 out of 5 format.

Tickets must be purchased online through AHSAA’s ticketing partner GoFan with admission set at $12 per day plus a convenience fee.

Pleasant Home, the second seed from the South, will open against Spring Garden, the third seed from the North, on Tuesday October 25 at 10.30am on Court 1 of the CrossPlex in Birmingham.

Opp, the fourth seed from the South, will start against Ohatchee, the North seed, on Wednesday, October 26 at 9 a.m. on Court 3.

Both teams must win twice to reach the state championship game at Harris Arena. These competitions are scheduled for Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. (Pleasant Home) and Thursday at 10 a.m. (Opp).
