‘Proud’ Ukrainian Mila Kunis and Husband Ashton Kutcher Launch Fundraiser to Match $3 Million in Donations

Mila Kunis and her husband Ashton Kutcher promised to match $3 million in donations to residents of Ukraine, the actress’s native country.

In a video posted to Kutcher’s Instagram account on Thursday, Kunis said she was “proud” of herself Ukrainian heritage and pledged money to help those who fled the country amid The invasion of Russia.

“I was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine in 1983. I came to America in 1991. I have always considered myself an American, a proud American, I love everything this country has done for me and my family. But today I have never been prouder to be Ukrainian,” said Kunis, 38.

“And I’ve never been so proud to be married to a Ukrainian,” Kutcher added.

“The events that unfolded in Ukraine are devastating. There is no place in this world for this kind of unjust attack on humanity,” the ‘Bad Moms’ actress added.

The couple then pledged to match $3 million in donations through a relief effort via GoFundMe. This will benefit Flexport.org and Airbnb.org, two organizations active on the ground that provide immediate assistance to Ukrainians.

“As we witness the bravery of the people of the country in which she was born, we also witness the needs of those who have chosen safety. We are raising funds to support a relief effort that will have an immediate impact and provide a lot – needed humanitarian assistance and refugees in the area. The main challenge right now is logistics. We need to find accommodation, and we need to get supplies and resources into the area,” Kutcher said.

The couple donates up to $3 million to the two organizations, they said. Flexport.org will transport aid to non-governmental organizations on the ground and Airbnb will cover housing costs for those hosting refugees.

“The Ukrainian people are strong and brave, but being strong and brave doesn’t mean you don’t deserve support. We have to support the Ukrainian people. Please help us,” Kunis concluded.

The video comes just days after Kutcher showed his support for Ukraine on social media. His wife was born in the country and lived there until the fall of the Soviet Union.

“If you know anyone from Russia, call them and tell them their media is lying to them,” he added. wrote on Twitter. “Ukraine doesn’t want to fight, it just doesn’t want Putin’s government and doesn’t want to be busy.”

Kutcher also shared the post in Ukrainian.

Kunis spoke about immigration to the United States in an interview with the Los Angeles Times in 2008.

“It was very communist, and my parents wanted me and my brother to have a future, so they gave it all up,” Kunis told the outlet. “They came with $250.”
