The bookstore becomes more magical when a golden retriever is appointed manager

Toss a coin to your witch is more like reading a book to your dog. There is something magical about the combination of pets and books, as both hold a special place in the hearts of many. You can cuddle them, they’re there for you when you need a friend, and sometimes they end up in places they shouldn’t be. A match truly made in heaven.

One such place that combines a healthy combination is Rubin’s books, a California bookstore run by Ruby, a golden retriever, is responsible for welcoming guests and accompanying them on journeys to fantasy lands. We will also examine Weird library, a Lithuanian used bookstore run by a cat named Kukutis. Without further ado, let’s get into it (yuh)!

More information: Rubin’s books

Ruby’s Books isn’t just a fantastic bookstore, it’s also officially owned by Ruby the golden retriever puppy.

Ruby’s Books was the brainchild of co-owner and Ruby’s adopted mother, Stacy Gould. She said Dodo that when the family first started talking about opening a bookstore, they thought it all through. Her kids and husband were busy with school and work, so Stacy knew she’d be going to the store every day, as was the family dog, Ruby.

Ruby’s owner had to take her to the bookstore anyway, so why not make it special and name it after her?

They knew Ruby would be essential to the business. Her friendly, loving personality and the fact that people fall in love with her as soon as they meet sealed the deal – she will co-own the bookstore and it will be named after her.

Stacy remembers thinking that Ruby would still have to come to the store with her every day, so “Why don’t we name the store after Ruby?” What a wonderful way to commemorate your beloved pet!

The bookstore aims to curate a quality selection of books from many genres, as well as toys and gifts. They strive to create a place for the community that readers of all ages will return to again and again.

The dog plays a very important role in the bookstore; from welcoming the guests to the captivating performance, it’s a full day’s concert

The store has only been open for about a year and a half, and Ruby and her bookstore have already become an important part of the community.

The pup is great at greeting guests, cleaning up the place, and making sure everyone is safe from the villains in the stories they might be reading. Stacy added extra duties to the puppy list, such as rolling over and endless belly rubs, sniffing treats in customers’ pockets, and mopping the floor with a very bushy tail.

And of course, could we forget the obligatory adorable, scattered nap? Never!

Work-life balance is very important to Ruby. And as the saying goes, “Work Hard, Play Harder”

The Ruby family believes it’s important to maintain a healthy work-life balance. So Ruby works Monday through Friday and spends her weekends at home with her family.

Puppy loves every moment she spends in the store and we love seeing her there. Stacy even joked that “people come for the books, but stay for the dog!” As much as we love books, we can’t say she’s wrong about that.

Having a dog accompany you while reading reduces stress and protects you from the antagonist of the story you are reading

Given that both reading and spending time with pets can help combat stress and anxiety symptoms, it makes perfect sense to combine the two! Sounds like a great way to improve your health, learn something, or get away while strengthening the bond between you and your furry friend.

Extra props to you if you read the stories out loud for your pets to enjoy. You can also play a little trivia from the book, like: What dog does Dracula own? Bloodhound.

Ruby sure loves her belly rubs and she’s sure to get them wherever she goes

No article about books and pets would be complete without poetry. Here is a funny poem by Jean de La Fontaine, “The Dog and His Image”:

“A stupid dog that carried in its jaws
juicy bone,
He looked down at the stream and saw it there
another,
Splash! He plunged.. The image disappeared –
The meat he had was gone.
Indeed, he almost drowned,
And barely reached the bank.

Ruby is now 6 years old and very responsible, but let’s not forget how adorable she was as a baby

The little puppy will grow into the wonderful lady we know today, with an important job and many responsibilities. But some things never seem to change – her playfulness and her favorite nap poses.

Bookstores are not limited to puppy managers, there are also cats who have similar jobs as this one in Vilnius

If you’re more of a cat person, you’ll love this bookstore located in Vilnius, Lithuania. It’s called Keistoteka (translated as ‘strange library’), and it’s full of used and pre-loved books, as well as new releases and art. But the main attraction is co-owner Kukutis, a handsome ginger cat who spends his days sleeping over books… I mean, oblivious to the quality of the writing and entertaining visitors.

The small bookstore acts as a retirement home for books, where anyone can bring books they are no longer interested in. Both Kukutis and other employees take good care of the books. It is truly a unique place full of magic and waiting visitors.

Kukutis also spends his days preserving quality literature and entertaining guests, just like Ruby

He will be waiting for you in the Keistoteka!

And here is an excerpt from a beautiful poem about cats by HP Nichols called “The Cat.” Enjoy:

“Her mother said, ‘Honey, if you
You did what you were told
And put the plate on the shelf,
Maybe you had bread yourself.

“But if you don’t think and care,
And leave lunch on the chair,
You don’t have to blame the poor pussycats;
She doesn’t know better than that, dear.

“He who left the bread about
On the chair when she left, –
She who hangs her head in shame, –
My little girl is the one to blame! “

Be sure to let us know about other bookstores run by furry friends!

Ruby loves having her own bookstore, and her family loves that they now have the opportunity to share Ruby and all her joy with the community. Kukutis is also happy with his books and the people who come.

I wonder how many other bookstores have their mascots and protectors in the form of pets. If you know of any, please leave them in the comments so we can all see and explore.
