This 6-Story Lighthouse Rental in Minnesota Offers Epic Scenic Views

When looking for unique places to stay in Minnesota, the sky is the limit. From treehouses and cabins by the water to futuristic geodomes and castles in the woods, it’s easy to make your wildest travel dreams come true! Our latest obsession and most unexpected rental to add to your list of things to do in Minnesota? Headlights. Minnesota may not have an oceanfront coastline, but it certainly has plenty of lakesides to enjoy — and with it, a handful of historic lighthouses that provide sights for days. Of course, these magnificent structures are usually only open for tours and not for weekend getaways. Luckily, an incredibly creative couple from Burtrum, Minnesota thought our landlocked midstate needed a lighthouse, too — and a night in this beautiful home just might make you forget about the beach.

If you’re looking for a secluded nautical getaway without heading to Minnesota’s North Shore, Burtrum probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind. But it should be! This quiet little town near Upsala and Buck Lake exudes a quiet charm and is wonderfully secluded from the hustle and bustle of the city.

It is also home to a 6-story lighthouse that you can rent for your next dream vacation.

Lovingly designed, modeled and hand-built by the Lange family, the Stoney Ridge Lighthouse was a true labor of love that was completed in June 2022.

Along with locally sourced and upcycled materials, plenty of coastal-inspired touches create a haven that feels absolutely dreamy in this landlocked slice of Minnesota.

Details include a 250-pound tree stump that has been converted into a table, hardwood floors from a nearby old church, handcrafted wooden furniture and portholes, and even a beautiful painted compass on the floor to that you never lose your sense of true North.

Oversized bathrooms, a spacious kitchen, modern heating and air conditioning, and tasteful details will make your stay incredibly comfortable, even in harsh Minnesota winters. Of course, the on-site hot tub helps too!

Stoney Ridge’s craftsmanship is second to none, inside and out. Every finishing touch is carefully planned, like the magnificent chandelier that invites guests to climb, climb, climb to the top of the lighthouse.

A magnificent spiral staircase leads you to the ever-narrowing lighthouse tower, which opens at regular intervals to a variety of rooms. There’s room to sleep 12 comfortably here, but larger groups will also find space.

The sunny seating areas on the upper floors are the perfect place to snuggle up with a good novel (*Moby-Dick*, maybe?) and hot chocolate! The views get better as you go up, so be sure to peek through the portholes to take in the beauty outside.

Finally, the crow’s nest and lanai offer 360 degree views of pure Minnesota. In the fall, a veritable ocean of brilliantly colored foliage stretches out into the distance, though each season has plenty of beauty to showcase.

Although you won’t see any Atlantic waves lapping on shore, the shimmering water of the lake awaits you like its own private island in the distance. Catch a sunrise, sunset, or even a stargazing from here. No matter the season, the view is hard to beat!

Even better? The grounds are just as beautiful as the interior of this magnificent lighthouse. The house is surrounded by dense woods on all sides, as well as easy access to Rock Lake. Guests can enjoy nearby scenic walks through the nearly 500 acres of trees and take advantage of the paddle boats and kayaks provided if they wish. Going for a swim only takes a short walk to the water.

And at night… Stoney Ridge can light up as if it were on the coast, inviting sailors to come home.
