Three Americans have died after inhaling carbon monoxide while vacationing in Mexico City, the Mexican capital’s attorney general’s office told DailyMail.com on Tuesday.

Jordan Marshall and Kandace Florence, both 28, and Courtez Hall, 33, were each found dead Oct. 30 at the Airbnb home they were renting in the Cuajimalpa borough of Morelos.

Florence, from Virginia Beach, and Marshall, from New Orleans, had traveled together to meet Marshall’s friend Hall, who also resided in New Orleans, and celebrate Day of the Dead festivities, according to the network. NBC affiliate television WAVY.

Florence reportedly informed her boyfriend during a conversation on the night of October 30 that she was not feeling well.

The phone call suddenly stopped and after failing to catch up with her, he contacted the Airbnb host and asked if he could visit the residence for a health check.

Security at the apartment complex requested assistance from Mexico City police after detecting a strong smell of gas coming from the trio’s apartment, according to the Mexico City prosecutor’s office.

‘According to [forensic] expert studies conducted, the three individuals referred to died of carbon monoxide poisoning,” the attorney general’s office said.

The families said they had been in contact with the US Embassy to repatriate their bodies and have autopsies performed.

Marshall and Florence had been friends since high school. Marshall and Hall were teachers in the New Orleans school system, and Florence ran her own candle business.

“Losing your child is one thing, but being in a whole different country and having to overcome language barriers, traveling and trying to bring your body home, it was a lot,” Marshall’s mother, Jennifer Marshall, said.

She traveled to Mexico City and spent hours in a police station waiting for an interpreter to show up. She was unable to recover her personal belongings which were held by the authorities.

Chad Florence traveled with his wife to Mexico and said the embassy was unable to provide interpreters to accompany them to visit the morgue and the police.

Hall’s mother, Ceola Hall, told NBC affiliate WDSU that he flew to Mexico City on Oct. 29 and spoke to her for the last time that evening.

“It’s been so difficult,” Ceola Hall said. “We tried to call back there for the undertakers. Because of the language barrier and other things, you can’t understand or really understand anything.
