Even a small compliment or a quality quip can lift your spirits. Meanwhile, reading a nasty opinion or a cruel comment can put you in a bad mood for the whole day. In short, what someone writes can affect others.
You probably wouldn’t expect to find so much creativity, imagination and wit in a humble receipt. But among the boring lines of black ink, you can find some truly wonderful gems. But it takes a keen eye to spot them, as well as a server, retail worker or store owner with the spark of imagination to create them.

We caught up with British comedy writer Ariane Sherine, who used to work in retail, to get her thoughts on editing and dealing with rude customers.
