Cape Town girls’ lacrosse escape trap game at Parkside 18-10

Parkside Women’s Lacrosse is an enigmatic, well-drilled team with top-level players, and this team is playing well at home. Cape rolled onto the field Monday afternoon, April 30, and it was Senior Day for the Rams. Members of the Cape Class of 2018 each received flowers.

Ten seconds into the game, Annie Judge was shown a yellow card just for being Annie, tearing a goal-going midfielder out of control in the draw.

Man down for Cape and Parkside scored. It was like Donkey Kong.

Towards the end of the first half the score was tied at 6. Parkside twice came within two goals behind. Salisbury trap game – the Rams (4-3) wouldn’t be easy to get to 9-1 Cape.

“They’re a tough team to understand just by looking at the scores,” coach Lindsey Eichner said. “We were funky for most of the first half and I wasn’t happy with our effort. We eventually launched it by winning draws with multiple players scoring. It’s our game.”

Cape blew the game from level at 6-6 to an 18-10 win, a 12-4 run.

The Monigle sisters combined seven goals and four assists in the victory, senior Lindsay with 5 and 4 and rookie Emily with 2 goals.

Mallory Jones (3, 2), Anna Stancofski 2, Katie Frederick (1, 2), Lola Messick (1, 2) and single goals from Alia Marshall, Victoria Lockwood, Sawyer Walker and Cristina Benson also contributed to goals and in assists.

Cape outshot the Rams 32-22. Vienna Iacona made 8 saves in goal.

Cape plays at Polytech at 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 2.

Camryn Honecker made 5 saves for the Rams.

Parkside goals came from Leah Vilov 3, Keeley Block 2, Abby Roskovich 2, Kaitlyn Morris, Maureen Morris and Grace Henslee.

Cape won the JV match 18-1. Goals were scored by Riley Keen with 3, and Katie Knarr, Jocelyn Leach, Alex Best, Caroline Maull, Haley Craig and Sky Dunmyer with 2 each. Lindsay Rambo, Delaney Zolper, Kayla Burkentine have each scored once.

Vivian Lynn and Destiny Kusen shared goalkeeping duties.
